Who We Are

Greeting on behalf of The Board of Directors of the Prince Hall Legacy Foundation of Alabama. Since 2003 our foundation has served as the 501c3 non profit arm of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Alabama, Free & Accepted Masons. During this period the foundation has supported the health, education and welfare of the citizens of Alabama, particularly in communities which have a percentage of culturally or economically disadvantage residence.

Illustrious Corey D. Hawkins Sr, 33° currently serves as the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite Masons owing fealty to the United Supreme Council, 33° of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Prince Hall Affiliation, Southern Jurisdiction of the United States of America,Inc. The Illustrious Corey D. Hawkins Sr, 33° also serves as the Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F. & A. M. of Alabama.Corey D. Hawkins, Sr. was born August 27, 1972, in Leighton, Alabama (Colbert County) the second of three sons to Mr. Parker Lee and Mrs. Diann Hawkins. He graduated in 1990 from Colbert County High School with an advanced curriculum diploma.Grand Master Hawkins began honing his leadership and oratorical skills at a young age in the Baptist Church as a member of the Crusaders, an organization for boys. As a Crusader, he served as Crusader-in-Chief (President) for his local church chapter (Mt. New Home M.B.Church), Crusader-in-Chief of the Muscle Shoals District and Crusader-in-Chief of the Northwest Alabama District. Grand Master Hawkins also won the Crusaders Junior Oratorical Contest many times over at the Muscle Shoals District Level, Northwest Alabama District Level, and the Alabama State Level. To this date he still lives by the Crusader Watchword: For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37.

After graduating from high school, Grand Master Hawkins entered Alabama A. & M.University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. While at Alabama A.& M. University, Grand Master Hawkins made the Dean’s List on several occasions. Upon graduation he matriculated to Birmingham, Alabama, and began a teaching and coaching career in the public school system.As a middle school basketball coach, Grand Master Hawkins won the championship in each division he coached in at least once. He also was named Middle School Coach of the Year twice for his division. As Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, Grand Master Hawkins was fortunate enough to assist each team to the Alabama State High School Playoffs. One of his great accomplishments has been the success in transferring the TEAM concept from the basketball court to the administration of the numerous Masonic houses that he has led.While teaching, Grand Master Hawkins worked his way through law school. Upon graduation of the Birmingham School of Law and having passed the Alabama State Bar exam on the first attempt, Grand Master Hawkins began his career as a trial attorney.Attorney Hawkins has been successful in his professional career. He founded The Hawkins Firm, LLC, Attorneys & Counselors At Law. Since being admitted to practice law in the State of Alabama, he has been admitted by the United States District Court, Northern District of Alabama; United States District Court, Middle District of Alabama; United States District Court, Southern District of Alabama; and the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit.Grand Master Hawkins is also a Certified Guardian Ad Litem. Grand Master Hawkins was raised on June 17, 1991, in Hopewell Lodge No. 198, Leighton,Alabama. He has served over all houses both York and Scottish Rite, and has been the guest speaker at many masonic functions.Grand Master Hawkins was elected to his present position on July 24, 2013, at the 143rdAnnual Grand Lodge Communication held in Mobile, Alabama. He is currently the youngest GrandMaster in Prince Hall Freemasonry and the second youngest Grand Master ever in the history of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F. & A. M. of Alabama.Grand Master Hawkins is the proud father of one son, Corey D. Hawkins, Jr., and one daughter, Autumn D. Hawkins. He is also an active member of First Baptist Church Ensley. Grand Master Hawkins has always believed that hard work pays off. As a result, he possesses the credentials, qualifications, leadership abilities and experience to be at the helm of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F. & A. M. of Alabama.

Kevin L. Howard

K-Howard Freemasonry plays a very important part in Kevin’s life. He joined Queen Victoria Lodge No. 216, Free & Accepted Masons Jurisdiction of Alabama, in June of 1992. He has served in the following positions: Worshipful Master from May of 1999 until June of 2014, Holy Royal Arch Masons, in January of 1993, and Excellent High Priest from January of 1999 until June of 2013. Kevin joined Ezell-Towner Commandery No. 10, Knights Templar, on December 31, 1996. He has served as Recorder from 2001 to the present. He a member of Emmanuel Council No. 7, Royal & Select Masters, and currently serves as the Principal Conductor of the Works. Kevin joined Abraham Consistory No. 257, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. He was elevated as Grand Inspector General on October 8, 2018, in Memphis, TN. Kevin also serves faithfully in the affiliate organizations. He joined Henrietta Chapter No. 151, Order of Eastern Star, in June of 1993. He has served as Worthy Patron from July of 2002 until the present. He joined Towner-Dixon Court No. 96, Heroines of Jericho, in December of 1997. He has served as Worthy Joshua from July of 1999 to the present. Kevin then joined Zion Starlight Court No. 17A, Order of Cyrene Crusaders, in December of 1997. Kevin also serves as Secretary of the District No. 2 Master’s Council. Currently, Kevin L. Howard proudly serves as the Grand Recording Secretary of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Alabama and Grand Recording Secretary of the Alabama Council of Deliberation.

Kevin L. Howard was born on January 14, 1974 in Waynesboro, MS. He is the son of the late Mr. Henry Howard Jr. and Mrs. Sadie Howard. He married his lovely wife, Arquetta S. Howard, on July 4, 2001. They have two children, Charsade Denise Howard (age 19) and Charlea S. Howard (age 14).

Kevin has a firm faith in God and is very faithful to his church. He is a member of the Gin Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Gilbertown, AL, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lewis Jefferson. He was ordained as a deacon on May 5, 1996. Kevin serves in various capacities, from being a member of the choir to serving as the church financial secretary. Kevin also serves as President of the Alabama Line Usher’s Union, and he is a member of the WCC Mass Choir.

Kevin graduated from Southern Choctaw High School, in Silas, AL, in May of 1992. He graduated number seven in his class with an Advanced Bio-Prep Diploma. He then graduated from the University of West Alabama in May of 1999 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics Education; December of 2004 with a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Administration; and May of 2013 with an Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in Instructional Leadership.

Kevin is employed as an educator in Choctaw County. He served as a math teacher at Choctaw County High School in Butler, AL from August of 1999 until May of 2006. He then served as Principal of Choctaw County High School from July of 2006 until February of 2013. Kevin is currently serving as Human Resource Director for the Choctaw County School System in Butler, AL. In addition, Kevin has served as President of the Choctaw County Education Association and he is on the board of Leadership Choctaw.

The life of Kevin L. Howard is all about service. It does not matter what position I hold, or what degree I possess; I just want to be able to help and serve my fellow man. Most people fight and scheme to get positions, but I can proudly say that I have never even asked for a position. My joy comes from not being at the head or in the spotlight, but from being a foot soldier, helping others to shine.

Glenda H. Reynolds

Glenda H. Reynolds was born in Tuscumbia, AL. She a resident of Moulton, AL, locatedin Lawrence County. She is the daughter of Glennice H. Jackson and the mother of Desnatie R. Reynolds.

Glenda is a graduate of Lawrence County High School. She received her B.S and Master’s Degrees from Alabama A & M University, in Normal, AL. While at A & M,Glenda was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Ms. Reynolds was employed by the Lawrence County School System. She had a passion for her students. She was employed as a Special Services Teacher for thirty-seven ½ years. In those thirty-seven ½ years, she was a cheerleader coach, volleyball,and basketball coach.

Michael C. Ryans

Mr. Michael C. Ryans is a proud husband and father of two. Mr. Ryans is a 1994 graduate of Greensboro East High School, a 1999 graduate of the University of Alabama, a 2006 Master’s Degree and a 2014 Educational Specialist Certification recipient from the University of West Alabama.

Mr. Ryans was a third and sixth grade teacher at Greensboro East Elementary for seven years, before serving as a computer applications teacher and Assistant Principal at Greensboro West High School from 2006-2007. Mr. Ryans also served as an assistant varsity football coach and Head Coach for the Jr. High football team while working in Greensboro. After serving as principal of Sunshine High School from 2007-2012, Mr. Ryans was hired as the Director of Federal Programs at the Hale County Board of Education. He also served as the Assistant Superintendent, Technology Coordinator, EL Coordinator, Counseling Coordinator, Homeless Liaison, and Athletic Director. In 2018, Mr. Ryans was appointed Superintendent of the Hale County School System.

Mr. Ryans is a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist church, where he is a member of the Male Chorus. He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Liberty Star Lodge #333 Free and Accepted Masons, Little Bethel Chapter #797 Order of Eastern Star, Mckenzie Chapter #38, and Rose of Sharon Consistory #208. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Project Horseshoe Farm, Greensboro Boys and Girls Club, and the Greensboro Housing Authority.

Attorney William M. Pompey

Attorney William M. Pompey is the youngest child born to the late Ben and Willie Mae Pompey. Ben Pompey was a veteran in the United States Army and a United States Postal Service worker. Mrs. Pompey was a loving and dedicated housewife, community activist, and former secretary of the Birmingham Chapter of the NAACP. After overcoming Jim Crow laws and meeting poll tax requirements, both parents became registered voters. They voted in every election during their respective lifetimes. They understood and believed in the power of the vote and community activism; and they instilled those beliefs in their children.

Attorney Pompey was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He was educated in the Birmingham Public School system during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. The bombings, beatings, and many injustices he witnessed inspired him to volunteer and become one of the early students that integrated a local high school. Attorney Pompey earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate Degrees from Miles College. Through his parents’ teachings, educational achievements, and life’s lessons; Attorney Pompey believes in and works for equal justice under and by the law for everyone.

Dr. Mary L. Harrington

Dr. Mary L. Harrington is a resident of Anniston, AL. She graduated from Pell City High School and attended Alabama State University where she graduated with honors after 2 years and nine months with a Bachelor’s degree. Harrington received her Master’s degree and Education Specialist from Jacksonville State University and a Education Specialist and Doctorate degree from the University of Alabama in Educational Leadership.

Dr. Harrington’s career consisted of 39 years for Cleburne County Schools with 20 years in the classroom and 19 in Administration. While in Cleburne County, Harrington has a list of first that she could celebrate. Two of those first were the first female superintendent and the first African American superintendent.

Dr. James H. Gray Jr.

Dr. James H. Gray Jr. holds an Educational Doctorate (Ed. D.) degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Nova Southeastern University. He also holds degrees of Master of Arts (M.A.) in Administration and Educational Leadership and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Special Education concentrating in Emotional Conflict. Dr. Gray presently serves as an Academic Success Specialist at Stillman College. Stillman College is a liberal arts institution whose mission is committed to fostering academic excellence, to providing opportunities for diverse populations, and to maintaining a strong tradition of preparing students for leadership and service through community engagement.

After 29 years of service within the public-school sector, Dr. Gray retired from the Bibb County School District, whose board of education is in Centreville, Alabama. Throughout his tenure there, he served as a Resource Teacher, Assistant Principal, Interim Director of Bibb County Career Academy, and as a Central Office Administrator. In this position, he was afforded the opportunity to serve in a multitude of areas of responsibilities to include Director of Special Education, Coordinator for English Limited Learners (ELL), Coordinator of Middle School Curriculum and Instruction, and worked cooperatively as a liaison with leaders of various departments and agencies such as the United States Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, the Emergency Management Agency, and the Juvenile Court Authority. Dr. Gray strives to uphold Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s idea that, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

J. Mark Debro

Mark Debro is a partner in the firm of Grace, Matthews & Debro located in Huntsville, Alabama. His areas of practice include civil defense litigation, personal injury, general liability defense, construction, Civil Rights, employment, dram shop, premises liability and property and casualty insurance litigation. He is a graduate of Alabama A&M University and Cumberland School of Law, Samford University. He is admitted to practice in all Alabama State Courts, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.

His professional affiliations include the American Bar Association (ABA); American Bar Foundation (Life Fellow); National Bar Association (NBA); Alabama State Bar (Board of Bar Commissioners 2020-Present); DRI; Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (Board of Directors,2019-2021;2021-Present); Alabama Lawyers Association (President, 2014-2015); Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association (President 2018-2019; Treasurer 2006-2007). His other affiliations include Morning Star Lodge No. 50 PHA; NAACP (Life Member); Huntsville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (Life Member); Huntsville-Madison County Chapter of the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association (Life Member); Mark is married to Angela (Ane) Redmond Debro and they are active members of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Huntsville, Alabama. They are the proud parents of two adult children, John Mark, II and Lara.

Colonel (Retired) Gregory L. Clark

Colonel (Retired) Gregory L. Clark is a distinguished leader with a multifaceted background in military service, academic excellence, athletic achievements, and financial expertise. Born and raised in Abbeville, Alabama, Gregory graduated from Abbeville High School in 1987, where he excelled as a star athlete in football, baseball, basketball, and track. His athletic prowess earned him a Baseball Scholarship to Florida A&M University, where he continued to excel both on the field and in the classroom. He graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and a Minor in Business Administration and was a standout player on the MEAC Champion Rattler Baseball Team, earning recognition in the Florida A&M University Sports Hall of Fame.

Transitioning into his professional career, Colonel Clark spent twenty-five years as a Financial Advisor with Prudential Advisors in Birmingham, Alabama, managing over $50 million in assets. Concurrently, he served with distinction in the United States Army Reserve for 33 years, including deployments during Operation Enduring Freedom. His military education includes graduation from prestigious institutions such as the United States Army Command & General Staff College, US Army Combined Arms Staff School, US Army Health Services, Operations, Intelligence, Security & Training School, and Services Staff School, as well as the US Army Basic & Advanced Officer Course. Colonel Clark’s service record is adorned with accolades, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal.

Richard Mathis

Richard Mathis retired in 2014 with over 37 years as a governmental and private industry employee. He is the fourth of seven children born in Clopton, Alabama to Henry and Rowanna Mathis. Richard graduated with a B.S. degree in Accounting from Tuskegee University. He obtained a Masters in Business Administration, became a Certified Public Accountant, a Certificate Internal Auditor and Sarbanes Oxley Certified Professional. Richard is a US Army veteran and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. He is a member of St John AME Church, Birmingham Alabama and reside in Chelsea, Alabama.
